I just wanted to let my blog readers know that WP Blog Host is running a number of promotions right now on domain names, package discounts, and blog security updates (security updates are done by me).
Some promotions expire and at different times, so if you see a promotion you like, check the promo’s expiration date.
1. Promotional Codes

Who doesn’t like promotional codes? These codes are good through the 4th of July weekend (2009) for any of our domain and hosting products. Great to use when you purchase web hosting annually.
2. $3.99 Domains with Purchase
Purchase any non-domain product from within our product catalog and register domain names at a discounted price of $3.99. Great if you’re looking to start an affiliate site or start a blog.
3. Register a .US tld for $7.99
This promotion was inspired by the upcoming 4th of July holiday. Register .us domain names for only $7.99. This promotion ends July 7, 2009 at midnight Pacific time.

5. $1.99 .INFO tld Discount
Whether you want to promote information about your businesses, organizations or yourself, .INFO is a great way to create an identity on the Web. Get .INFO first year registration for just $1.99/yr (you save $8.00!).
6. 20% Off WordPress Security Upgrades
One of the services I provide here along with an associate are WordPress security upgrades to lockdown your WordPress installation some and help prevent malicious jerks crack into your blog. John,
Get in touch with me via email please. I am thinking of moving one of my websites to you. It would be a website with a WP blog. It is a new business domain and I have been using shared hosting at GoDaddy.com.
It’s cheap and all, but I am testing some others and if I like yours I think I may move a few..
Thanks,
Jim

Hey! Thanks for dropping by over at my blog. I do appreciate it.
I am wondering… how often are WordPress blogs hacked and how to the perps do it?
Thanks!

Hi Jannie, my pleasure. I have reorganized my workload so I can visit and comment on more blogs I’ve been wanting to get to. Yours was on the list
To answer your questions:
How Often
All the time, every single day. Just visit the WordPress forums and do a search for my blog was hacked and you’ll get an endless supply of threads to read. This blog has been attacked (and thankfully thwarted), by some person in China. Their IP address is 58.241.255.38 in case you want to block them from accessing your site. They tried 6 or 7 times, but what they tried would never of worked for my blog.
How
Well, this is one I’ve been struggling with when it comes to writing a post about it. I don’t want to “teach” would-be jerks out there how to crack into someone’s blog, but maybe I’ll write up some kind of post on it. Of course this is a service we provide (ebook in development also), so I don’t necessarily want to tell all.
I’d say the two most popular methods I see are password discovery (use the login lockdown plugin to thwart that) and SQL injection (attempts to hack your database).
Of course there is more, but those are the basics.

God, it’s all kind of scary.
And yes, I understand exactly why you can’t post too much on it.
I put that IP in my comment blacklist, I’m assuming that will help somewhat.
Toatlly off now to look into that login lockdown plugin.
Thanks!
