I’m a blogger… and trust me, my wife knows that.
It’s also almost Christmas and she’s almost finished shopping for me. The other day she asked me if there was anything I wanted which pertained to blogging.
I thought, “Hmm . . . that’s a good question. What kinds of gifts can someone get for bloggers?”
I headed over to Amazon.com and began surfing around for gift ideas. Here are some ideas in case you’re ever in this situation.
Computer Hardware
|
ASUS UL30A-X5 Thin and Light 13.3-Inch Black Laptop – 12 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Home Premium) What caught my eye on this laptop was the fact that it has a whopping 12 Hour Battery Life. That means a blogger can unplug it and blog from just about anywhere – Starbucks, the back yard, movie theater . . . The 4GB of memory also means it’s gonna be a speed demon. |
||
|
Logitech ClearChat Comfort USB Headset I own one of these and love it. I can groove to my tunes while I blog and do my work on the computer all the while not disturbing everyone else. These headphones are as simple as plug it in and you’re done – that’s it! No programs to install or installation instructions. The microphone works well too, though not as good as a more expensive condenser microphone (see below). |
||
|
Dell S2209W 22-Inch LCD Widescreen Monitor Bigger is better, right? Other than its size, there are 3 things I like about this monitor:
Assuming the blogger needs a new monitor, I think this would make a great upgrade. |

Books & eBooks (downloadable books)
|
Blogging For Dummies If the blogger you know is just beginning their blogging journey, this would be a good book to get them. Blogging isn’t as easy as just typing up some articles and hitting the publish button. You need to know how to get people to read your blog, understand the different parts of what makes a blog a blog, what hosting services you should go for, etc. Plus, you can never go wrong with those dummy books. |
||
|
WordPress SEO Secrets (eBook) If the blogger you’re buying for is a WordPress blogger (you may have to ask), then one of the most important things for them learning how to do is to drive people to their blog. WordPress SEO Secrets will help them learn how to set up their blog and insert key components into their articles so that search engine users can find them. |
|
|
31 Days to Build a Better Blog (eBook) I purchased this book and loved it, and so will the blogger you’re buying this for. This book is written by probably the world’s most known problogger, Darren Rowse. If there’s one thing he knows how to do, it’s grow his blog and make money with it. In this eBook, he helps us blogger “build a better blog”. Well worth the money. |
|
|
Write For The Web (eBook) If the blogger you know writes for a living, this is the eBook for them. Master copywriter James Chartrand of Men with Pens shows in this eBook how to get your writing business started and how to turn it into a real business. I have to say, this is the visually prettiest eBook I’ve ever seen, surpassed only by the content written in it. This book is a must have for not only writers, but bloggers who wish to learn how to write better articles for their blog and readers. |
Software
|
SyncBackSE (for easy backups of websites) SyncBackSE is another product I use all the time and highly suggest for bloggers. Bloggers put LOTS of time and effort into building their website and getting everything to look and read just the way they want. Unfortunately, sometimes blogs break and unless the blogger has a working backup of their site, everything could be lost. Furthermore, many bloggers don’t bother to keep updated backups of their files because, well, it’s not a fun process. SyncBackSE makes it easy for them to back up all the files contained on their web hosting account. Once set up, it takes about two clicks and you’re done. Nice, simple, and effective. It can also be set up to work on autopilot, so the blogger never has to worry about it. |

Gifts For Bloggers Wanting To Start Video Blogging
Between my blog and WP Blog Host’s Television Channel, I do a lot of video blogging. Here are the products I use (or have used) and know you can’t go wrong with if the blogger you know is looking to start video blogging.
|
Audio-Technica AT2020 USB Condenser USB Microphone This is the microphone I use to do my video tutorials. The sound is crisp, clear, and has the right amount of bass to it. I love this microphone and so will the blogger you buy it for. |
||
|
Logitech Webcam Pro 9000 So far I haven’t pointed the camera in my direction too much, but I plan to – I swear. After looking over a ton of webcam reviews, I finally chose the Logitech Webcam Pro 9000, and I’m glad I did. Video shots are smooth and clear. It works well in low light, though the more light the better. If you’d like to see some video I took with this camera, watch for my face in my blogging bloopers video (note I didn’t record it in the highest quality). |
||
|
Camtasia Studio Version 6 Unfortunately, it costs about $300; however, if the blogger you know is serious about creating videos for online use, this is the program to get. Camtasia is what many of the big time video creators use because, well, it’s the best at what it does. Capture video, edit the video, and save it in whatever format you need. This is a must have software for video bloggers, in my opinion. |

Other Ideas
Trying to figure out what to give as a “blogger gift” can sometimes be challenging. It’s good to know what the blogger really wants or needs (though sometimes they don’t really know what they need if they’re still new to blogging).
- Sometimes bloggers have a “Donate” button or “Amazon Wishlist” in their blog’s sidebar (see mine on the right). Use these to send them money or browse items they’re telling you they want.
- Do you offer a service or have a talent you can offer as a present? Free web design, graphics, writing services . . . all that will work for a blogger. If you’re a copyrighter, for example, offer to rework some of the wording on your blogger friend’s website to help them increase readership and sales.
- If your blogger friend hosts their own blog (i.e. pay a monthly or yearly fee for web hosting), offer to pay one more year of hosting for them. If they don’t yet have hosting, we offer it here at WP Blog Host.
So there you have it, gift ideas for bloggers. Please note that many of the links provided in this article are affiliate links, which means I make a small commission if you link over to the products and buy. Of course, you are in no way obligated to use my affiliate links to purchase any of the above.
If you’re a blogger, what else do you think might make a good blogger gift?

Great list.
My Xmas wish list is very blog-related too. I just switched to a Mac so I have to replace some of my favorite Windows programs with Mac equivalents like 1Password instead of Roboform and Camtasia for the Mac or Screenflow instead of Camtasia Studio. Camtasia for the Mac is only $99 right now, so at least there is a bit of savings over the Windows version. That doesn’t happen very often. There is always something new to buy and try in the blogging/website world, isn’t there? lol

OoooooH John,
These are all fabulous ideas. I want them all. Haha!
And then there’s the Lamborghini. We bloggers are often in a hurry to publish a new post, so a fast sportscar would be a great time saver.

What did Oscar Wilde say… “I can resist all things but temptation”.
A lot of tempting things here John.
Only got one question, how can I get my wife to read this post?

Oh I’m feeling for you. Having to switch everything over as well as learn new programs to do the things you use to do with other programs…ugg. Well hopefully you’ll be happier with the Mac, I know a lot of people are. RoboForm says the Mac version is coming out soon, but we’re still waiting. Good luck and like you said, there are always new toys coming out, isn’t there?
Barbara
Now you’re talk’n! I’ve always wanted one of those. Now if my fingers could type as fast as a Lamborghini then I’d be all set with speed blogging! Hey, speed blogging; isn’t that kind of like speed chess – or am I just way off LOL.
Keith
Oh you might be able to get her to read it, it’s the follow through you’re going to have a problem with!

Speed blogging? That’s a new concept. I’m guessing if we had a Lamborghini we could accomplish that…as long as we’re not blogging while driving.

Great ideas John – I didn’t realise you could get “Blogging For Dummies”. I love the idea of the laptop with 12 hour battery life too. I’m lucky if I get an hour out of mine.

Hi Cath. I know what you mean. My wife’s old laptop would be lucky to get 1 hour’s battery life. Not much you can do with that.

Hi John – the trouble with laptops is that som many of us now use them instead of a pc. And often we forget to unplug them. I totally ruined my last batter by doing that. Someone should come up with a gadget that switches off the electricity to the laptop, once it is fully charged, so there would be no need to remember to unplug it.
Did you get any snow in Vegas yet? We have snow here today.
December 20th, 2009 at 11:01 am
We had snow cover the mountains about a week ago here in Vegas, but it’s pretty much melted now. Last year we had a snow storm at this time. It was beautiful.
Try not to freeze up there in UK-ville.
